LOS ANGELES, CA (April 22, 2024)— Steven Spielberg, Alliant Communities Senior Vice President of Affordable Housing, participated in the San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness 2024 Housing Summit, an event that highlighted the significance of paving the way for a brighter future in affordable housing solutions.
The San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness, a collaborative annual gathering, is at the forefront of the ongoing effort to combat homelessness in the San Gabriel Valley. The Summit brings together key stakeholders, government agencies, service providers, and community advocates in a united front to address challenges, strategize future initiatives, and work towards a shared vision of a homeless-free San Gabriel Valley.
Steven’s presentation focused on explaining affordable housing, offering a comprehensive explanation of its core principles and importance. He delved into its funding mechanisms, driving factors, timing considerations, and associated opportunities. He explained the nuances of income restrictions and affordability levels, highlighting the necessity of such initiatives in addressing housing challenges.
“Affordable housing is about building pathways to stability for every community member,” said Mr. Spielberg. “Together, we can create lasting change and ensure everyone can access safe, high-quality housing.”
At the summit, a range of crucial topics were discussed. These included Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s first Executive Directive to streamline affordable housing permitting. The attendees also explored the progress in housing developments on faith-based organizations’ land and the evolving landscape of the YIGBY (Yes in God’s Backyard) movement, which are significant developments in affordable housing solutions.
Another significant aspect of the summit revolved around strategies to destigmatize affordable housing within communities resistant to further developments. This advocacy work, deemed indispensable and urgent, seeks to counter decades of negative narratives surrounding affordable housing to ensure stability and shelter for all community members.
